About Us

We are a Civic Movement of Memory and Sovereignty.

“We are not inventing claims – we are reviving buried truths.”
Our Resolve

The Chagos Islands are an inseparable part of Maldivian heritage and pre-colonial sovereignty. We are a grassroots civic initiative committed to restoring historical, legal, and cultural ties between the Maldives and the Chagos Archipelago.

Our Mission

Research: Legal, historical, and geographical evidence
Legal Advocacy: Submissions, diplomatic briefings, and policy engagement
Public Awareness: Campaigns, media outreach, and civic education

We Are Custodians, Not Executives

We reject the NGO model. We are not a funded organisation but a civic collective bound by duty, not hierarchy. This is the Custodian Model:

No foreign funding dependence
No personal ownership or branding
Roles are functional, not hierarchical

Our Civic Structure

Our work is divided into functional circles. Each circle operates autonomously yet collaboratively, based on civic responsibility rather than rank.

Core Circle (Administration & Coordination)

Administrative Custodian: Day-to-day coordination, correspondence, documentation
Outreach Coordinator: Allies, media, NGOs, diplomatic liaisons
Records & Archiving Officer: Document and research management
Event & Logistics Facilitator: Event planning and briefings

Research Desk (Evidence & Records)

Senior Research Contributors: Legal, historical, and policy insights
Research Associates: Literature review, drafting, archival analysis
Junior Researchers: Fact-checking, reference indexing, briefing prep
Thematic Circles: Treaty Group, Colonial Archives, Mapping Unit

Support & Solidarity Circle

Community Liaison Volunteers: Local councils, students, civic groups
Media & Visual Collaborators: Posters, infographics, storytelling
Translation Support: Dhivehi, English, Arabic, French, etc.
Advocacy Friends: Legal scholars, NGOs, diplomats

Council of Reflection

Custodians of Memory: Oral historians, moral and spiritual elders
Reflections Circle: Guidance, not command

Open Contributor Network

Contributors: Writers, artists, anonymous researchers
Public Supporters: Petition signers, diaspora, global allies
